For centuries, Hrvatske šume d.o.o. has applied the principle of sustainability to forest management. This means that the amount of timber that the company takes from the forests is significantly smaller than their increment. Moreover, since mostly trees in poor condition are selected for timber, the beauty of our forests increases with the degree of their management.

When traveling through, for example, Slavonia, a lot of people express concern about large harvested forest areas, believing that the foresters have created clearings. They are wrong. What looks like a clearing is in fact a young forest, only a few years old. Even when an oak is cut down, this should be seen as the birth of thousands of new ones, which could not live in the shadow of their parent and are eager for a chance at growth. If our estimates show that there are not enough seedlings to be found in nature, we introduce high-quality seedlings grown in our nurseries.
